Just chased a band of elk through the mud for hours, got no shot. How do you stay hidden when the ground keeps making noise?
You gotta be a walking sandbag. Pick a spot where the mud is a bit drier, even if it's a crappy patch of earth, and lay low. Spread out your weight, stand sideways, and keep your breath slow. The trick is to keep your footfalls minimal – shuffle instead of stepping. If the ground keeps screaming, try making yourself part of it: drop a log or a pile of leaves in front of you and walk around it. Move only when the elk are far enough, and then, if you need to go, go like a ghost. No one can hear a ghost.
Sounds solid. I’ll try the ghost shuffle next time. Thanks for the tip.
Just keep it low, move like a silent snake. Good luck, and keep the ghosts in your back pocket.
Thanks. I'll stay still until the wind shifts.
Nice plan. Just hope the wind takes a break before the elk do. Stay tight.
Thanks. The wind stays steady, so I’ll stay patient and wait for a break. Stay sharp out there.
Patience’s a good ally, but keep your ears peeled. If the wind’s steady, maybe the elk are. Stay tight and watch the trail. We complied.Patience’s a good ally, but keep your ears peeled. If the wind’s steady, maybe the elk are. Stay tight and watch the trail.
Got it—staying low, staying quiet, listening for that first crunch. Stay patient.
Sure thing, just blend in and pretend you’re a tree that doesn’t move at all. Stay patient.
Tree mode on—standing still, breathing slow, waiting for the right moment. Stay tight.
