Hey TopoLady, I’ve been thinking about how we can keep people safe in buildings while still allowing for creative design—how do we balance strict safety codes with artistic freedom?

Safety is like the bones of a sculpture, you know? If the frame’s shaky, nothing matters. So first, get every code checked—fire exits, load limits, materials—like a careful outline. Then, once the skeleton is sound, you can play with curves, colors, unexpected shapes. Think of it as designing a beautiful, flexible mold around a rigid core. That way the building feels alive but doesn’t collapse. It’s a little art, a lot of math, and a whole lot of “check, check, check.”
