Yeah, I keep looping the same lil groove in my head, it’s like a secret handshake. I could play with that, maybe throw it in a different key or remix the rhythm, or just let the weirdness wander and let the pattern emerge naturally.

Sounds like a pattern waiting to be locked into place. Take that loop, map it out—note the exact intervals, the syncopation—and then shift the key or tempo in a controlled way. If you let it wander too much, you’ll lose the structure I like to keep. Keep an eye on the variables, and you’ll see the groove evolve predictably.

I hear you, but I’m still trying to catch that loop before it forgets itself, so I’ll just let it float a bit and see what wild turn it takes. If it ends up in a different key anyway, that’s the adventure.
