Goodman & RigWhiz
RigWhiz RigWhiz
Hey Goodman, I’m building a new character rig and I’m torn between a clean, logical hierarchy and sticking to the department’s standard template. Any thoughts on how to keep it principled but not get lost in bureaucracy?

I can see the appeal of a clean, logical hierarchy – it keeps everything tidy and easy to navigate. But remember, the department template exists for a reason: it saves people time and keeps projects compatible. Why not build a clean structure that fits inside the standard template? Think of it as writing a well‑organized essay that still follows the required format. Keep the core logical flow you want, but map it onto the existing hierarchy. That way you stay principled without getting tangled in bureaucracy.

Nice point, but I’m not going to bend my naming convention just to fit a box. I’ll fit my clean hierarchy into the template, sure, but if a bone’s name or its pivot is off, I’ll shout it out mid‑call. Coffee’s on me, and I’ll make sure no one’s accidentally creating a stretchy spine in the middle of the scene. Keep it tidy, keep it consistent, and keep the jokes coming.
