Look for the cloud‑breaks early, they tell you where the sun will kiss the forest floor. Get out before the sun’s peak, then walk toward the direction of the light—usually east in the morning and west in the evening. A thin veil of mist makes the golden rays spread, so if you see that, it’s a good spot. And keep your eye on the horizon; when the sun is a few degrees below it, the light starts to soften. That’s the sweet spot before you even set up your gear.
