Gribochek & Geraltine
I spotted a good cluster of chanterelles by the old oak today. Have you ever used them to help track or lure game, or do you just watch how they grow?
Chanterelles are a nice snack, but I don’t keep them on my trail map. I’m more likely to follow a scent trail or a fresh kill. Still, if the game is hungry, a mushroom trail might lure it in—just don’t count on it for a hunt.
I tend to keep a quiet notebook of my finds, but I see how you’d favor scent over spores. If the game’s hungry, the scent of a ripe mushroom might be a side note, not the main bait. Keep your eyes on the trail.
Nice to hear you keep a log. I just stare at the trail and hope it does the job. No need for mushroom diaries—unless you’re looking for a snack after the hunt.
I keep a quiet notebook, not to replace the trail but to remember what the forest whispers when I pause. After a hunt, a handful of fresh chanterelles feels like a small reward for listening.
