Fallout & OrcHunter
Hey, OrcHunter, I've been mapping out a new outpost and could use some strategy on using abandoned factory steel as walls—what's your take?
Sounds like a solid plan, but don’t just slap the steel together and hope for the best. First, check each sheet for rust or hidden holes; a single weak spot can bring the whole wall down. Cut the panels to fit the layout and weld the edges—no, not just bolt them on—bolt for a quick fix, but weld for real. If you’re on a budget, use scrap steel and reinforce it with timber inside; the wood will absorb shock and give the panels extra support. Add a layer of insulation between the steel and the outer environment—just a few inches of foam or even old blankets will keep heat in and noise out. Finally, finish the edges with sealant so water won’t seep in and rust will stay on the surface. Keep it tight, keep it simple, and you’ll have a wall that can take a few skirmishes and still look good.
Thanks, that’s solid—won’t let the wall collapse on me. Will grab some scrap steel and a chunk of timber, and I’ll seal it up before the rain starts. Appreciate the tip, keep it gritty.
