Okay, picture a shield about a foot wide, but only a foot deep, so it’s easy to swing. The rim is thick and reinforced with a layer of steel. The front is a single piece of obsidian‑black steel, etched with a rune that glows faintly when a blade comes close. Special features: a hidden slot on the back for a dagger, a built‑in grappling hook that folds out when you pull a leather strap, and a small pouch on the side to store a fire‑starter.
