I’ve been trying to model a cat with as few polygons as possible, but keeping its expression subtle. Any thoughts on the best way to keep the topological flow for something like that?

Yeah, keep the flow along the face first—start with a good quad base for the head, then add a couple of edge loops around the eyes and mouth for expression. Skip the fancy subdivs, just use those loops to control shape. Keep the tail and ears with a few long strips of quads, no extra mid‑loops. If you hit 5 % bloat, dump that part and start over. Triangles are fine where you need sharpness, like whisker tips or the tip of a paw. The key is clean, natural edge flow that follows the cat’s silhouette—no unnecessary loops, just enough to give that subtle change in expression. Quick and clean, that’s the low‑poly way.

Sounds good, just make sure you keep an eye on the shading, especially around the ears – little detail there can make the whole look feel more alive. I’ll keep a mental note of that.

Just watch the normals, keep a smooth ear edge and you’ll get that alive feel. Don’t over‑edge there, just enough to give the light a path. Good luck, and remember—triangles are only there to surprise, not to clutter.
