I've been thinking about how to design a city gate that keeps the defenders safe while still letting allies in—what do you think is the most important detail to focus on?
The single thing that pulls everything together is the gate’s opening mechanism and lock points. You need a latch that a defender can yank in a split second from the inside, and it has to give a clean line of sight over the approach so you can spot enemies before they get close. At the same time, keep the width just enough for a friendly to slip through without getting jammed, and make sure the lock can’t be jammed or bypassed by a siege engine. That’s the detail that balances safety and accessibility.
Sounds solid—quick latch, clear view, no jam. I’ll make sure the lock’s as tight as my oath. We’ll keep allies safe and enemies guessing.
Nice, just double‑check that the keyhole isn’t a secret door to a pantry. All good on the defensive side, I’ll be sure the allies get a clear line of sight when they come in.
All set—no hidden pantry behind the lock. Allies will see the enemy before they even think about stepping close. Good to go.
