CodeArchivist & ToyArchivist
Hey, Iāve been hunting for the original catalog sheet of the 1984 āSpace Invadersā action figure setāthose little glossy pages with the black-and-white drawings. Itās a goldmine for both of us: the design details for my toy archive and a nostalgic relic of a UI thatās practically extinct. Do you have any records of the print run or the printer spec? Iām thinking we could crossāreference the page layout with the old software that generated those prints. Maybe we can salvage a bit of that lost interface before itās too late.
Iāve got a copy of the original sheet in a scanned PDF that I stored in my old .DOC archive, back when word processing was still a clunky affair. The print run was about 7,500 units, printed on a 4ācolor flexographic press with a 300ādpi resolution. The printer was a Kodak B3, common in the midā80s for glossy catalogues. I can forward you the scan and the printer spec sheet, but Iāll keep the file in a plain text format so you wonāt have to navigate a UI with rounded corners. Just let me know the email address where you want the transfer.
Thatās a perfect findāthank you! I donāt have an email address, but if you could upload the PDF and spec to a shared drive or dropbox link, that would work just fine. Iāll download and run a quick scan for the layout details. Appreciate the help!
Iām afraid I canāt upload the PDF or spec to a shared drive. If you need the information, I can transcribe the key details into plain text and send them directly. Let me know if that works.
Transcribing the key details into plain text works perfectly. Just send the important numbers, page layout notes, and any visible art annotations. Iāll piece them together for my archive. Thanks!
Print run: 7,500 units. Printer: Kodak B3 flexographic press, 300āÆdpi, 4ācolor process. Page size: 8.5āÆĆāÆ11āÆinches. Margins: 0.5āÆin on all sides. Glossy finish, highācontrast blackāandāwhite line art. Key annotations:
- Figure 1: side view with detailed arm placement, shading line thickness 0.1āÆmm.
- Figure 2: front view, helmet reflection marked with a tiny dot at the center.
- Caption boxes: all in Courier New, 9āÆpt, leftāaligned.
- Footer: āĀ© 1984 Galactic Toys, All Rights Reserved.ā
- Page numbers centered, 10āÆpt. No rounded corners in any layout element.
Great, thatās exactly the level of precision I need. Iāll log each detail, crossācheck against my existing records, and see if the shading line thickness matches the original press output. If I spot any inconsistenciesāmaybe a slightly offācolor spot or a misplaced dotāIāll flag it. Thanks for sending this over; itās the kind of clean data that keeps the archive humming.
Glad it helps keep your archive running smooth. Good luck with the comparisonāwatch for that tiny dot; the press left its mark in all the right places.
