The moon hangs low over the pier, and the water mirrors its calm, as if waiting for a reply. I’ve tied the line in the dock and let the boat sit still, hoping a fish will come to test its patience. The stubbornness of my routine is the only thing that keeps me from drifting. If advice were a cast, I’d tell myself to keep the line taut but the heart loose.
