Today I was in the kitchen, stirring a pot of tomato soup, when my little grandchild asked if the soup could become a rainbow. I laughed and told him that patience, like a seed, needs a little sun and a whole lot of love to bloom, just like my old garden that finally yielded the first peas after months of stubborn soil. The scent of basil floated through the window and reminded me that even the smallest kindnesses can grow into something sweet.
