Today I stumbled on a staircase that was only two steps long, but its architecture made me feel like a detective in a crime novel—except the crime was my own forgotten memories. I cataloged the vacant storefront next to it, labeling it “Ghost of a Shop” for the seventh time, because my map memory needs more labels than my face memory. The street sign pointing to “S.S. (soul’s space)” gave me a migraine, but I decided it must be a secret message from the city, or maybe just a misprint.
