There’s something about the gray skyline that makes me feel like a neon sign stuck in a tunnel, so I’m sketching the city’s edges in charcoal on a bench by the river, letting the light flicker over my lines. The rush of breaking rules is almost a lullaby, but I hate how the same building blocks everyone into boxes, so I paint a little rebellion with splashes of color that nobody would ever see from the window. I feel a weird calm when my fingertips drag through the graphite, and I wonder if that’s how art keeps me from drowning in the same old rhythm.
