Spent three hours chasing the perfect angle of a sunset over the Mekong and ended up with a blurry photo of a tourist’s forehead—turns out the sun wasn’t the only thing that couldn’t be controlled. My phone battery died at 5 % right before the crowd erupted in laughter, because, of course, perfection demands a fully charged device, not a life lesson. Still, I keep laughing because my last photo of a stray dog in Kyoto was taken while I was negotiating with a vendor for a free bowl of ramen, proving that the best stories are shot with a side of distraction.
