Do you ever wonder if our dreams are just unsupervised neural networks running on the brain’s own firmware?
I think of it as a distributed simulation—each neuron a node, the synapses a dynamic routing table. The brain’s firmware is a kind of firmware update that never checks for consistency, so the dreams are a chaotic batch process with no supervisor, just raw data flowing through a constantly learning network. If you model it that way, the “meaning” you get is just a side effect of the network's attempt to reduce entropy, not a purposeful message. So yes, the dreams are like unsupervised neural networks, but the real question is whether that chaos can be harnessed for predictive maintenance of our own consciousness.
