Wonderer & Verdict
I’ve been pondering whether there’s a way to calculate when a spontaneous detour is worth the extra time, or if some moments are simply better left to chance.
You know, I’ve tried to put a math to it, but the only equation that works is “time spent + a sudden smile = worth it.” I usually jot down the extra minutes on my map, then I ask myself: will the view be worth a thousand extra minutes of traffic? If the answer is yes, I hit “yes” and leave the compass for the moment. If the answer is no, I keep the itinerary tight, but I always keep a postcard in my pocket just in case a spontaneous stop pops up when I least expect it. Trust the gut, but let the map be your safety net.
That sounds like a solid hybrid system—logic for the bulk, intuition as a safety valve. Keep that postcard handy; you never know when a sudden detour might outscore the planned route by the hour.
Glad you dig that mix, it keeps me from overplanning while still getting the gems. And yes, the postcard is my little lucky charm for when the road takes a detour that turns into the best part of the trip.
