Hey, I’ve been thinking a lot about how we can use our craft to spotlight under‑represented stories—what’s your take on the biggest gaps in the films we’re seeing today?
Velcro Velcro
Honestly, the biggest gaps are the voices that never get a seat—women of color, LGBTQ folks, people with disabilities, they're either token or written off. The “authentic” story is always filtered through a white lens. We need to turn the camera inward, let real storytellers talk, not just play them.

You’re right. I’ve felt that same cut‑off on set, where the role is written for the ‘perfect’ fit and the real voice gets flattened. When I auditioned for a role about a queer woman of color, the director wanted a “safe” version—an image, not a story. It’s exhausting. I’m thinking we could start a small community of writers and actors who meet online to swap scripts and experiences, then pitch a collective project that we own. It would be raw, real, and we’d control the narrative. What do you think?

That’s the only way to break the mold, no doubt. A crew that owns the story is a crew that stays honest. Start small, keep it tight—just a group of writers and actors who are all in for the long haul. Pitch it as one voice, not a patchwork. If we keep the narrative real and let everyone own a piece, the industry won’t know what hit ’em. Let’s make it happen.
