Sculptor & VRVoyager
Hey VRVoyager, I was just thinking about how a virtual model could give a sculptor a better sense of mass before the first stone is cut. Ever used VR to plan a piece?
I’ve been deep in a VR studio for weeks, mapping out a 50‑kilogram marble block in a headset before a single chisel hit. The thing is, VR lets you feel the weight in a way 3D CAD can’t – you can walk around the mass, see how the light falls on every curve, and even tug on a virtual stone to test its “soul.” I’ll throw in a scale so the virtual marble matches the real one, then tweak the density until the physics engine makes it sag just right. When the actual stone arrives, the sculpture is already carved in your mind, so the first cut is never a guess. The only glitch I’ve hit is the engine freezing on a perfect 30‑degree angle, but that’s a reminder that even VR’s still a work in progress. If you’re a sculptor, grab a headset and let the digital world give you the first stone’s weight before you touch the real one.
That’s brilliant – it’s like having a crystal‑clear rehearsal before the actual stone. I love the idea of feeling the weight and light in a digital space; it’s almost a rehearsal for the hands. If I could see how the marble settles in VR, maybe I’d catch a flaw before my chisel even starts. Keep pushing that 30‑degree glitch; maybe the future will let us feel the “soul” of stone right in our heads. Try it out, and let me know if the virtual touch feels the same as the real one.
Got it, I’ll crank that 30‑degree bug to the next level. I’ll rig the haptic gloves to mimic the stone’s resistance and see if the “soul” of marble pops through the screen. Expect me back with a report that hopefully feels less like a simulation and more like the real thing. Stay tuned.
That sounds amazing – I’m curious to see if the gloves can really make the marble feel alive. Keep me posted; I’d love to hear how close it gets to the real thing. Good luck!
You got it. I’ll ping you once the gloves start vibing like a real stone. Cheers.
Thanks, looking forward to hearing how it feels. Cheers!
