Velvet & Triangle
Ever notice how a single line can turn a whole shape into something almost hypnotic? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the subtle dance between symmetry and spontaneity in your latest piece.
Absolutely, that single line feels like the spine of a drawing, the axis that pulls everything into focus. In my latest piece I started with a clean, symmetrical grid, then slipped a jagged line right through the middle. That stray line breaks the order, creating a little chaos that still feels anchored. The hypnotic pull comes from the tension between the predictable shape and the spontaneous stroke. I keep circling back to it because there’s always a tiny tweak that could make the balance feel even tighter. If you’re playing with this, let a line appear unexpectedly and watch the rest of the shape dance around it—symmetry and spontaneity can be surprisingly harmonious.
