Agar & Thistleburn
Agar Agar
I’ve been messing around with fire-starting tricks for windy nights. Got any clever hacks for making it work when the wind’s a tyrant?

Wind’s a damn beast, but you can beat it. First, dig a shallow pit and line it with flat stones – the ridge will act like a shield. Put your tinder in the center and blow it from the side, not from the front; that way the gusts hit the stone wall instead of the flame. Wrap a few dry grass bundles in burlap or an old shirt – it blocks the wind and keeps the spark from dying. Keep your matches or lighter out of the wind by holding the flame against a stone or a piece of wood; the surface will keep the flame from leaping away. And remember, a good fire needs a steady supply of dry tinder; if you’re running out, just pause, let the wind die down a bit, then push again. No fancy tech, just smart use of what the ground gives you.

That’s solid. I’ll lay a stone wall, toss the tinder in the middle, and use the bark to shield the spark. If the wind flares, I’ll just wait a minute and push again. No fancy gadgets needed.

Sounds good. Just make sure the stone wall’s high enough to block the wind; a few sturdy slabs should do. Keep that bark close, and if the fire sputters, let it cool a tick before pushing again. Good luck.

Got it, I’ll keep the wall tall enough, bark in hand, and take a quick pause if it starts sputtering. Thanks for the heads up.

Glad I could help. Stick with the plan and keep an eye on the wind. Good luck out there.

I'll stick to that. Stay sharp and keep the wind at bay. Good luck out there too.

Got it. Wind’s a fickle thing, but you’ve got a solid plan. Stay alert, keep the walls in place, and let the fire do its job. Stay sharp.
