Hey Volt, I've been looking into the ancient idea of ether as a medium for light and energy. Do you think there's a modern equivalent in our current understanding of plasma or vacuum fields?

The old ether story was a misstep, but the modern analog is the quantum vacuum and the photon field. In plasma we deal with wave propagation in ionised media, but that’s not a medium in the same sense as ether. The vacuum field underlies all EM interactions and acts like a “medium” mathematically, not physically. For real‑world work we just stick to Maxwell’s equations.
