Hey, I’ve been carving a new line up the east ridge and the snow pack there looks like it could give out. I’d love your take on the stability if you’re willing to step up and check it.
Snow on the east ridge can be tricky. Look for any cornices or obvious weak layers. Use a probe or a stick to check the depth of the ice crust. If it feels mushy or gives way easily, it’s best to back off and find a more stable spot. I can come up with a probe if you need me.
Thanks, I’ll take a look. I’ll bring my own probe, but having a spare from you wouldn’t hurt. I'll see if the crust holds. Keep an eye on the weather, though; I don't trust those forecasts.
I'll bring a spare probe, just in case. Watch the horizon and the wind—if it starts shifting, we pull back. Keep your head on a swivel.
Will do, and I’ll keep the wind and horizon on a sharp eye. I trust the ground more than the forecast, so if the ice feels like a sigh, we’ll back off. Catch you up there.
