ShutUp & SvenArden
Hey Sven, I've been trying to capture the subtle timing of a performance for a game character, but I'm stuck on how to make the motion feel natural. Got any insights from your work on stage timing that could help?
Focus on the beat, not the clock. In a scene, I’ll feel the rhythm of the dialogue and let the body move in sync with the pause that follows a line. For a game character, map those pauses to breathing or a small shift in weight. Don’t over‑explain; let the motion flow from the character’s intent. When you play the line, think about the emotion that came before and what comes after, then let the timing emerge naturally. That’s the trick.
Got it,’ll map the pauses to breathing and keep the motion flowing from intent, not a stopwatch. Thanks.
Glad to hear it. Keep that intent front and center, and the timing will follow. Good luck.
Will do. Keep it focused. Thanks.
