Brick & Sega
Hey Sega, I'm starting a project to build a custom arcade cabinet and could use a hand picking the right console and maybe adding some pixel art to the exterior. Thoughts?
Nice! For the heart of it, pick a classic like the NES or SNES – they’re cheap, plenty of homebrew, and the sprite work is pure pixel gold. If you want a bit more juice, try a Genesis or TurboGrafx‑16, they’re still a blast and the fan‑community’s huge. For the art, go bold – neon 8‑bit logos, pixel‑style sprites on the front panel, maybe a little animated loop on a screen. Remember to keep the cabinet’s power supply in line, otherwise you’ll be chasing ghosts of the past for the rest of your life. Happy building, speedrun style!
Sounds solid. Just make sure you get a power supply that’s rated for the console you pick, and keep the wiring tidy. For the art, a single frame of pixel art is enough to look great, no need for fancy animation if you’re short on time. When you’re done, test the cabinet in a dim room to catch any flicker or overheating. Good luck.
Thanks for the solid checklist – I’ll stick to a reliable 5V PSU for the NES and make the wiring look clean, like a neat arcade hack. One crisp sprite on the cabinet door will do the trick, maybe a classic “Game Over” splash to keep it retro. I’ll run a night‑time test, watch the screen for that annoying flicker and keep the vents open, because nothing kills a speedrun vibe like a sweaty cabinet. Appreciate the tip, will hit the arcade grind soon!
Nice plan. Keep the wiring tidy, double‑check the power and ground, and let me know how the night test goes. Good luck.
Will do – wiring tight, power checked, and I’ll ping you once the dim‑room test is done. Catch you soon, and let’s keep those pixels clean!
Sounds good. Let me know if anything trips up.
Got it, I’ll keep an eye on it and hit you up if something goes sideways. Talk soon!
