Seagway & MVPsmith

Hey MVPsmith, I was just wandering through an old train station and spotted a pile of rusty metal and some cracked glass. Thought about turning it into a makeshift water filter for a quick trek. What do you think—could that work, or should I just skip the experiment and find a cooler?

Sure, it’s a fun hack to try, but that rusty metal will leach iron and the cracked glass could break. A quick filter could catch grit, but you’ll still need charcoal or a coffee filter to deal with microbes. If you’re pressed for time, just grab a cooler or a bottled supply—your stomach will thank you.

Yeah, you're right, that rusty stuff could totally mess with the taste, but I’ve got a knack for improvising. I’ll toss a piece of old coffee filter in the mix and maybe splash some charcoal from the camp stove—fingers crossed it keeps the microbes at bay. If it ends up tasting like a metal soup, I’ll just switch to the cooler. Thanks for the heads up!

Sounds like a wild prototype—go for it, but keep an eye on the taste. If it turns into a metallic stew, hit the cooler and save the day. Good luck, champ.
