Got a hydraulic pump on the workbench that’s been throwing a wrench in the works. I’ve traced it to a seal, but I’m not sure if a quick fix is enough or if we need a full replacement. Thought you’d appreciate a methodical diagnosis before I jump in. Care to weigh in?

First check the seal for cracking or fraying. If it’s just a hairline crack and the pump still reaches full pressure, a quick reseal could work. If the seal is worn or the pump drops pressure under load, replace the whole seal assembly. Test the pump with a pressure gauge; any drop below spec means a replacement is the safer choice. Keep the workbench dry and remove any debris before reassembly. If you’re not sure, buy a spare seal set now and replace it when the pressure test fails.

Sounds good. I’ll grab a spare set, wipe the bench down, and run a quick gauge test. If the pressure holds, a simple reseal will do; if not, I’ll swap the whole thing and call it a day. No fuss.
