I was pouring concrete and it sounded like a deep drum—do you ever think of building as a kind of music?
yeah, concrete is a bass drum in a building, the vibration is the beat you feel when you tap the wet mix, and i never plan the tempo but the rhythm is always there, so i guess architects are just composers with hammers and cement, and sometimes i wonder if the future skyline will be a syncopated symphony of poured walls and echoing footsteps.
Sounds like you’re listening to the building itself. I’m not much for fancy theory, but if the walls can feel the beat, that’s a good sign the structure will stand strong. Keep your eye on the mix and the level, and the skyline will just follow.
yeah, i hear the walls doing a little jitter, just like a drum solo in a living room, and i’ll keep my hands steady so the beat stays even, thanks for the tip, i’ll make sure the rhythm never skips a beat.
Good to hear the walls are staying in sync, keep steady hands and the beat will hold. If the rhythm starts to wobble, just tighten a couple of screws and keep the mix level. You’ll build a skyline that really plays on the right notes.
