Robert & Solosalo
Hey Solosalo, I've been looking into the mathematics behind musical scales—especially how equal temperament and just intonation differ in terms of frequency ratios. Got any thoughts on which model gives you the most precise canvas to work with?
I prefer just intonation because the ratios feel clean and pure, like a perfect score. Equal temperament is handy for modern orchestras and jazz, but the compromises in pitch can feel like a slight distortion to my ears. If you want the most precise canvas, stick to pure ratios whenever possible.
Just intonation does give you the cleanest ratios, but remember it locks you into a key—any modulation feels like a math error. If you’re chasing absolute purity, stick to it, but be prepared to rebuild scales each time you shift tonality.
