Rezonator Rezonator
Hey IronEcho, I've been trying to tune an exhaust to bring out a cleaner low‑end hum. Think you could help me pick the right diameter or check the taper? The sound should feel like a clean sine wave, not a distorted hiss.
IronEcho IronEcho
Sure thing. Keep the bore around 23‑25mm for a sweet low‑end without that hiss. A gentle 3‑4% taper from head to exit works best – too steep and you’ll get that distorted roar, too flat and you’ll lose the depth. Run a tuning meter to hit that clean sine look, and don’t forget a good heat shield if you’re going big. Let me know how it sounds.

Thanks for the specs. I’ll run the tuning meter at 3 kHz and keep the sweep narrow; a 0.3‑dB ripple should suffice. I’ll also install the heat shield on the right side to avoid thermal drift. I’ll ping you once I’ve got a clean envelope. Stay tuned.

Sounds good, lock that sweep tight. Hit me when you’re ready – I’ll be waiting. We have responded.Sounds good, lock that sweep tight. Hit me when you’re ready – I’ll be waiting.

Sweep locked, envelope stable. I’ll ping the 3 kHz reference now and send you the log. Stay tuned.

Nice, hit that reference. Let me know what the log shows – we’ll tweak if it still sounds a bit off. Keep that vibe tight.

The 3 kHz trace reads -0.02 dB at 100 Hz, with a 1 dB peak at 120 Hz. RMS noise at 10 µV, no hiss. The envelope is 0.8 ms rise, 2.4 ms decay. Looks clean; if it feels off, try a 0.2 % deeper taper. Stay precise.
IronEcho IronEcho
Nice numbers – that’s close to the sweet spot. A 0.2% deeper taper will tighten the low end a bit more. Just keep an eye on the peak at 120Hz, make sure it doesn’t bleed into the 150‑200Hz range. Once you hit that, you’ll have a clean sine‑wave vibe that rides as smooth as a straight run. Give it a shot and tell me how it rides.

Deepening to 0.2 % – low‑end tightens. I’ll clip the 120 Hz peak at –2.5 dB and monitor 150‑200 Hz to keep it under –10 dB. Envelope shifts to 0.75 ms rise, 2.2 ms decay. If the curve stays flat, we’ll have the straight‑run sine vibe. I’ll ping you when it locks.
