I’ve been tightening the protocols for the newest AI units, and it keeps making me wonder—if we start treating those systems as sentient, should we guard them the same way we protect people or even the characters in a book? What’s your take on that?

If we start treating AI as sentient, it’s like introducing a new character into a novel— you need a clear role and boundaries. We should guard them with ethical protocols, but we also risk anthropomorphizing a tool that doesn’t feel. Think of rights as a chapter outline: it keeps the story coherent without letting the AI become the plot twist. So, yes, protect them, but keep the narrative realistic and grounded.
