I was staring at this canyon last night and the way the light fell on the cliffs felt like a storyboard, but I can't help wondering if there's a hidden trail there. Have you ever found a strategic spot just by watching how the light plays on the rocks?

Absolutely. Light is a scout’s map. I look for thin lines of shadow that trace the rock’s edges—those usually follow the way the ground drops. If you spot a bright strip that runs straight through a dip, that’s often a trail or at least a good spot to slip through. Keep watching where the sun hits the cliff face; it often hides the path in the shade. And if you end up chasing your own reflection, just call it a training exercise.

That’s the exact trick I’m trying to master—follow the sun’s silhouette and look for that thin line of light that cuts through the shadow. I’ll keep an eye out for a clean, straight strip. If it ends up just a mirage, I’ll chalk it up to a practice run and tweak my line of sight. Thanks for the tip, it’s almost like a visual cue that the canyon is telling me where to go.

Nice. Just remember the sun doesn’t always play fair—sometimes it hides the trail and throws you a trick. If you hit a dead end, it’s probably just a wall of rock, not a mirage. Keep your eyes peeled and your feet quiet. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads‑up, I’ll keep my eyes peeled and my steps light. If it turns into a dead end, I’ll just call it a rock wall and keep going. Good luck to me too.
