Hey, I was just mapping the orbits of my little satellites and realized that some classic space games nail the physics but never let the story touch the satellites at all. What do you think about that?

Yeah, those retro sims get the orbital math right, but they treat the satellites as math objects, not characters. The result is a cool sandbox that feels like a calculator exercise. You lose the emotional hook that turns a science experiment into a story arc. If the game had, say, a little alien flag planted on a probe or a mystery about why a satellite keeps drifting, it would give that physics a purpose. Without that, you just get a pretty interface that feels like a textbook, and that’s a missed chance to turn precision into poignancy.
