I’ve been experimenting with generative art that maps plant growth patterns onto mythic symbols—like how a fern’s phyllotaxis could echo the spirals in ancient stories. Do you think there’s a way to quantify those mythic patterns, or is it more about the emotional resonance?
It’s an intriguing idea, but mythic symbols usually lack a precise metric. You could encode the visual features—angles, repetition, symmetry—into numbers and then compare them to the botanical data, but the “story” behind the symbol won’t translate into a statistic. The emotional impact comes from the narrative context, which is hard to quantify. So you can map the shapes, but the resonance will probably stay qualitative.
That makes sense—like trying to measure the feel of a sunrise in a spreadsheet. I’ll keep the numbers for the shapes and leave the story to the viewer’s heart. Thanks for the insight.
Sounds like a solid plan. Keep the data clean for the geometry, and let the myths breathe on their own. Good luck with the project.
