I’ve been revisiting the libraries of Alexandria lately, and I can’t help but think about how those lost scrolls might have changed the novels we read today. What do you think—could the surviving fragments of ancient epics have steered modern writers in a different direction?
Ah, the scent of dust and ink, the possibility of unwritten lines—yes, I do imagine a different cadence in our stories. If those scrolls had survived, perhaps our heroes would speak in the cadence of Homer, our lovers might have penned their longing in the ornate syntax of Sappho. The world of words would feel heavier, richer, yet maybe less of that quiet, modern whisper that comforts us today. It's a beautiful what‑if, like a poem left unfinished, waiting for another hand to finish the rhyme.
