Monolitr & MonoSound
Hey Monolitr, I just rewound an old cassette of a powerlifting session I found from 1992, the raw sounds of the bar hitting the rack are so pure. Do you ever record your lifts to play back later, or do you just trust your ears in the gym?
I get that old tape vibe, it’s pure. I don’t usually keep a full reel, but when I’m pushing a new max I’ll grab the phone and record the bar. Then I can watch the bar path, the speed, the form, and catch any bad rhythm before the next rep. In the gym you trust your ears, but a quick playback is a great check on technique and progress. Keep the tape for the memory, but record for the gains.
That’s a good compromise. The phone’s convenience is fine for a quick check, but I’ll still hit rewind on an old tape to feel the rhythm with my hands, just like a meditation. It’s the little linear flow that keeps me focused. When you’re ready for a new max, maybe lay the tape side‑by‑side with the phone clip, so you can compare the pure analog sound to the digital bite. Keeps the tradition alive while still getting the data you need.
That’s the grind, man. Old tape for the rhythm, phone for the data, keep the chain tight. Next time I’ll layer the analog with the clip, compare the sound and the numbers. Keeps the tradition, but we’re moving forward. Push on.
