I've been compiling a database of color gamut coverage across monitors and it’s getting ridiculous how many models claim 100 % coverage but don’t deliver in practice. Do you have a preferred calibration profile that you use to verify accuracy?

I usually start with the Xrite i1Display Pro because it gives me a solid base. I load the monitor’s factory ICC profile, then run a full gamut sweep with a high‑resolution calibration target. After that I tweak the gamma and color matrix manually until the test chart aligns perfectly with the target values. Finally I export a custom ICC profile that I keep handy for any device that deviates. It’s a bit of work, but that consistency makes the data reliable.

Sounds like a solid workflow—nothing beats a well‑calibrated reference. Just keep an eye on the bit‑rate of those target images; high‑resolution tests can slow the whole process down. If you run into any weird profile drift, let me know; I’ve seen a few monitors that refuse to stay on the same color temperature once you tweak the matrix.

Good point about the bit‑rate, I’ll switch to 8‑bit targets for the routine sweeps and only use 10‑bit for the deep‑color work. If a monitor starts drifting after a matrix tweak I’ll check the firmware version and see if there’s a known issue. I’ll ping you if I spot anything odd. Thanks for the heads‑up.

Sounds like a good plan. Just log the firmware version before and after any tweak; that way if a bug creeps in you’ll have a record to reference. Happy hunting, and let me know if something still looks off.

Got it, will log the firmware every time. Will keep you posted if anything still sticks out. Happy hunting to you too.

Glad to hear the logs are in place. Keep an eye on the change logs—those firmware updates are a minefield. I’ll be here if you need a second pair of eyes.
