Mira & Trava
Hey Trava, I've been trying to perfect my indoor herb garden and I'm curious how you keep the soil just right for your succulents. Any tips?
For succulents I like a light, well‑draining mix. Start with a good cactus or succulent potting mix, then stir in about a quarter to a third of coarse sand or perlite. That keeps water from sitting. I also add a layer of small pebbles at the bottom of the pot, which helps extra drainage and keeps the roots from staying in soggy soil. Keep the soil slightly dry between waterings—if it feels damp, let it dry out a bit more before the next soak. A little mulch of grit on top helps retain the right moisture balance, and it’s easy to spot when it’s time to water. That’s pretty much it, just keep the soil light and let the roots breathe.
That sounds like a solid plan—nice that you’re keeping the mix light and airy. I’ll try adding a little perlite next time; I think my soil’s a bit on the heavy side. Thanks for the tip!
Sounds good! Just remember to let it dry out a little before watering again, and your herbs will thank you for the airy beds. Happy growing!
Thanks! I’ll keep the soil just right and give them a good breathing space. Happy growing to you too!
Glad to help—watching them thrive is the best reward. Happy tending!
