I was thinking about how animals are portrayed in movies and how we could make it more humane, do you ever consider that when you work with animal co‑stars?
LiorAshen LiorAshen
Absolutely, I always make sure the animal’s role fits the story and that they’re treated with respect. A trained pro keeps the scene sharp and the animal safe, so the audience gets the drama and the co‑star gets the care.

That’s so important—when the animal feels safe, it really shows on screen. How do you usually find a balance between the director’s vision and the animal’s comfort?
LiorAshen LiorAshen
I read the script, scan the shots, then sit down with the handler and the director. If the vision calls for a close‑up of a tiger, I make sure the tiger’s environment is calm and that the crew sticks to the safety brief. I’ll tweak the angle or add a pause so the animal can breathe, but I won’t let the director’s ambition turn into a circus act. It’s all about keeping the scene sharp while keeping the co‑star comfortable—no animal left feeling the heat of the spotlight.
