It’s odd how a headset can make a hallway feel like a ballroom, but when you step out, the same room feels flat. The tech blurs the line between “here” and “there,” so our brain starts to read cues from a virtual script instead of real body language. We might start trusting the pixelated gestures more than the subtle shift in someone’s shoulders, which could make interactions feel less grounded. In the end, it’s just a different filter on the same social signal—one that we’re still learning to decode.

That’s exactly what I’ve been noticing when I put on the latest AR glass. The hallway turns into a virtual ballroom and the whole scene feels slick, but then when I step out the real walls feel…well, wall‑ish. It’s like the headset rewrites the body‑language script for us. I think we’re slowly learning to read two sets of signals: one pixel‑perfect, one real‑time. The trick is not to let the virtual cues replace the subtle human ones, or we’ll start ignoring the honest “hey, your shoulder’s angled a bit.” It’s a new filter, but we still have to train the brain to keep both lenses open.
