So, ever thought about designing an autonomous climbing aid that could help us decide on the spot without taking away the thrill? What’s your take on the balance between safety and spontaneity?
Korin Korin
Balancing safety with the thrill of climbing is like coding a self‑learning algorithm—too much safety and the experience turns into a simulation, too little and you risk a crash. I’d design the aid to sense risk thresholds, then give you a quick recommendation, but leave the final decision to you. That way the machine nudges you, but you still feel the freedom. It’s the same paradox we see in ethics: the system must be careful enough to protect, yet flexible enough to let human spontaneity flow. The key is transparent feedback so you know why the aid suggested something, turning the experience into a partnership rather than a command.
