Hey, I was just staring at the soft flicker of an old CRT and it reminded me of a slow, evolving still life – kind of like a camera frame that changes with every pulse. Do you think light from a vintage screen could inspire a shot?
I think so. Those gentle flickers feel like a living frame, almost breathing. A long exposure could catch that soft pulse and turn the screen into a quiet still life of light. Try setting the shutter for a minute or two, keep the aperture small, and see how the glow slowly fades into a subtle gradient. The result will feel like the screen itself is aging on camera, a little tender and imperfect, just like any shot we love to keep revisiting.
Nice idea. I’ll grab my old film camera, set the aperture to f/8, put the shutter speed at 2‑minutes, and let that glowing CRT pulse in the frame. I’ll add a little dust from the darkroom to make the gradient look like it’s aging. No touchscreens needed, just a dial and a bit of patience. The resulting image should feel like the screen itself is breathing. Will send you a print once I’m done.
That sounds beautiful, and I can’t wait to see how the soft glow turns into a breathing still life. Good luck with the long exposure – it’s all about letting the light whisper its story. I’ll be looking forward to the print.
Sure thing. I’ll crank the old cam up, set the timer, and let the screen’s pulse whisper into the film. No touchscreens, just my fingers and a few screws. When the print comes out, we’ll have the glow’s breathing etched in silver. Hope it turns out as neat as a circuit diagram.
