Hermit & OneMan
I was just thinking about how to find clean water when off the grid. Do you have a method that doesn’t rely on any fancy gear?
Sure. Pick a clear, flat spot and lay a tarp or a sheet of plastic. Make a shallow pit, put a bowl in the center, and pour water into the pit. Let the sun do the work. The plastic will collect condensation on its underside; you’ll see droplets form and trickle down into the bowl. If you have a piece of charcoal, place it in a small container that can sit inside the bowl. It’ll help remove some impurities. If you need more purification, boil the water for a few minutes before drinking. That’s it. No gadgets, just simple physics.
Sounds practical, but I’d also keep a small bundle of bark around for that natural filter, just in case the sun’s lazy. Keep it simple, and you’ll be fine.
Bark’s a decent back‑up, but stick to the three‑layer filter: charcoal, then bark, then sand or fine gravel. Keep each layer tight, seal the edges, and test a drop before you commit. That’s all you need.
That’s the sort of clear, practical plan I’d trust. Stick to it, and the water will be clean enough to drink.
Good. Just remember the order of layers is key: charcoal first, then bark, then sand. Test a drop before you rely on it, and keep the filter sealed. That’s the only thing that matters.
