Wolfgang & Gurza
Hey Gurza, I was thinking about how we could start a fire without any gear—just sticks and a bit of patience. Do you have a quick method that keeps things safe and clean?
You’ll need dry tinder, a fire pit and a bit of patience. Dig a shallow hole and line it with stones to keep smoke away. Get a few sticks, split the smallest ones into splinters. Lay the splinters in a loose cone, cover with very dry leaves or pine needles. Use a rough piece of bark as a fireboard and a smooth stick as a spindle; turn the spindle quickly against the board until you see a puff of ember. Transfer that ember to the tinder, then blow gently. Keep a bucket of water or a stone nearby in case it starts to spread. That’s the simplest, safest way to get a clean burn without gear.
That sounds solid. Just make sure the pit is deep enough so the fire won’t escape into the ground, and keep the water bucket close. If the wind picks up, lean the logs to one side and cover the fire lightly with more leaves so it stays contained. Good luck, and stay safe.
You’re right. Dig a hole deep enough, keep the water bucket within reach, and stack the logs with the wind on the back. Cover with dry leaves if it starts to drift. Good to know you’re thinking ahead. Stay sharp.
Got it. I’ll keep the plan tight, the fire close, and the bucket ready. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll stay sharp too.
Sounds good. Keep the logs tight, the water close, and never let the fire breathe. Stay sharp.
Got it, will keep the logs tight and the bucket close. Stay safe.
Good. Remember a fire can swallow more than just logs.
