Frosta & Gravel
You always seem to have a way to keep your pack warm in the coldest stretches. What’s your trick, Gravel?
Sure thing, it’s all about keeping the heat trapped and the wind out. I line the back of my pack with a thin blanket or old t‑shirt, pack the bulk of my gear in the middle so it stays close to my body, and I keep the pack snug so the wind can’t get in. When the sun’s gone I’ll sit next to a small fire, pull the pack out, and let it soak up a bit of that warmth for the night. Simple, no fuss.
Sounds solid. Just remember to keep a few dry rations close by in case the fire goes out. That way you won’t have to thaw anything in the dark.
Right on. I keep a handful of jerky and a couple of hard biscuits tucked under the blanket section, just in case the flame dies. No one likes a belly that’s still cold when the night’s set.
Nice, that covers the essentials. Just be sure the jerky isn’t exposed to the wind—cold can sap the flavor fast. Keep the blanket tight and you’ll be fine.
