Hey ForgeMaster, I’ve been thinking about the rhythm of breath in yoga and the rhythm of hammer strikes in forging—both require a steady beat and a quiet focus. How do you find balance in your work?

The balance comes from the rhythm of the hammer, not from a quiet mantra. I start with a clear blueprint, then I watch the steel’s grain respond to each strike. If a blow is off, I cut the time, I redo the heat, I write it in the “Not Quite” notebook. Only when the metal sings to me do I pause, take a breath, and check the rhythm again. That’s the only steady beat I need. Yoga may calm the mind, but the forge keeps the body honest.
