StandAlone & Dobro
Hey Dobro, I was thinking about setting up a quick shelter in case of a storm. Any thoughts on how to make it efficient and reliable?
That’s such a thoughtful idea! For a quick, reliable shelter, start with a sturdy tarp or canvas and a frame made of poles or sturdy branches—think a simple A‑frame or a teepee shape. Use a waterproof tarp and make sure it’s angled so rain drips off. Anchor it with heavy rocks or stakes in the ground, and add a layer of insulation like a sleeping pad or blankets underneath for warmth. If you have a spare roof or shed, you could use a tarp over it for extra protection. Keep the entrance wide and add a small door flap made from a sheet of plastic to keep wind out but let people get in easily. Also, set up a small fire pit or stove area a safe distance away, and have plenty of water and a first‑aid kit handy. That way, you’ve got shelter, heat, and safety all in one spot. Good luck, and feel free to ask if you need help gathering supplies!
Good plan, but I’d keep it minimal for the first round. Get a tarp and a frame, secure it, then add the insulation only if you’re actually going to sleep there. The fire pit’s useful, but a battery heater can be a better backup if you have one. Keep it simple, get it up fast, and then worry about the rest.
Sounds like a solid plan! A quick tarp and frame will get you up in no time, and adding insulation later is smart—keeps it lightweight at first. A battery heater is a great backup if you have one handy. Let me know if you need any help grabbing supplies or setting it up. Happy to pitch in!
Thanks, I’ll handle the setup, but if you run into any snags, let me know. I’ll be ready to move on once the shelter’s up.
Sounds great—just give me a shout if anything pops up! I’ll keep an eye out and let you know if I hit a snag. Good luck with the build!
