Dendy & Krevetka

Remember the old 80s game Submarine? I’ve been digging into how it tried to mimic deep‑sea conditions—did it ever get any of the science right, or was it all just retro fun?

Oh, Submarine! That’s a classic, right? Back in the day, it really captured that eerie, claustrophobic vibe of the deep ocean, even if the physics were a bit… well, creative. It didn’t try to be a scientific simulation—there was no accurate water pressure, no realistic hull dynamics, and the depth gauge was more of a design gimmick than a real oceanographic tool. But the game nailed the feeling: the slow, ominous glide, the looming danger of enemy subs and the occasional sonar ping that made you feel like you were on the edge of a real dive. So, while it didn’t get the science right, it was all retro fun and still feels hauntingly authentic when you play it again.
