Ever wonder how the numbers behind a protest can either legitimize or delegitimize it? I’m thinking we need to talk about data in activism—how stats can help us win fights, but also how they can blind us to the human pulse we’re trying to protect. What's your take?
Sure, if you count the marchers, you get a hard number you can put on a slide deck, but that number doesn’t capture the echo of a single shout or the weight of a clenched fist. Data can prove a narrative, but it also truncates nuance; a chart of turnout never tells you why people turned up or why some stayed away. The trick is to layer metrics with stories—use the numbers to frame the issue, but keep the pulse in the field, not just in Excel.
You’re spot on—numbers are the scaffolding, not the whole damn building. Keep the stories as the foundation, and the stats just the bolts that keep the structure from falling. Keep fighting, keep speaking up!
